Organizations I Love: The Groundtruth Project/Report for America

It has been such a privilege to serve as a Strategic Advisor to The GroundTruth Project over the past seven years. During that time, the organization received its 501c3 status, achieved 10X growth (!), launched Report for America and – perhaps most importantly – told some of the most important stories of our time while nurturing the careers of the next generation of journalists around the world.

Every non-profit organization needs Joanne Heyman.

Joanne has been transformative for our organization, guiding us on a five-year path from an early stage non-profit to a self-sustaining model. During her time consulting for us, she provided crucial counsel that allowed us to successfully increase our budget and our staff by more than fivefold. She has helped us come together as a team to shape our vision statement and she guided me personally through writing our five-year strategic framework which has become our roadmap for the future. And, as a result, Joanne has now joined our Board of Directors where she continues to play a role in governance at a very exciting time of growth in our organization. I know I speak for our whole team in offering the highest level of praise for Joanne as not just a consultant, but a visionary.

Their numerous awards tell a tale of success and impact. In addition, I was a witness to the evolution, from idea to achievement, of a game-changing organization that is making its mark on individuals and an industry.

This fall marks a transition in my role with this talented and dedicated team - from Advisor to Member of the Board of Directors.

I am both proud of this organization and eager to participate in a new way as they continue to strengthen careers, journalism, and democracy.
